Yoichi gave a check from SURF for $3,000 to the Discovery Garden Preschool Instructors. It will cover 3 tuitions for 6 months. Tony Terrasi is getting together a donation from a doctor, of medical equipment after January that will go to Mexico.
Great Extractions: Rusty and Val were the SGTS. They were in somewhat of a hurry because of the size of the audience they went to Happy Bucks. Jane Anne was happy to see the results of her work as Prez in 2005 when the Massai project started. Josh was Happy because Tony came back, Yoichi was happy for the Discovery Gardens project check for $3000 and Bob Betts won the pot and donated it back to the club Tony Terrassi told of a project for the club down the road in January when we will be moving donated medical equipment to a storage waiting for transport. We had too many visitors to mention, except Gabriele our exchange student from Brazil how is being hosted by Bob Betts.
The Rotary Club of Naivasha, Kenya has been a long time partner in global grant water projects with our clubs and districts. On Wednesday morning, two of their members spoke to the Prescott Sunup RC about the project in Narok, which is finally very near completion. Immediate past president Edward Mathenge gave an update on the details of getting the new well connected to the water distribution system. Also, on hand were Dr. Mary Poole from Prescott College and Metamei OleDapash.Metamei is a Maasai leader and was instrumental in getting the Narok project started. He also reported the latest water project in Kenya is about to launch near the village of Talek.
Finally, Rotaract Naivasha club president Ephantus Kariuki talked about the projects his club has done and what they are proposing to carry out, including their participation in the Crutches 4 Africa mobility device distributions, feeding and training prisoners, work with local youth and medical camps. They also have a water filtering project on the horizon to reduce the levels of fluoride in Naivasha water to an acceptable level. Joining the team were Gladys Githaiga and Loice Kole, both from Nairobi.
Last Wednesday evening Sunup members enjoyed our annual Christmas party with a great dinner, terrific gifts and prizes and holiday conversations. Thank yous to Ben, Val and George for all their work in setting up the festivities.
Good morning Sun-up ... With the visit from the Kenyan Rotarians, and the Christmas party, it was great to see and reconnect with some familiar former members . On that note, former members can be a good source for recruitment. The circumstances that occasioned their leaving may have changed, and a simple invite to join again could be enough of a prompt to renew a membership. “Ya don’t ask .. ya don’t get”.
Let me also reinforce Noel DeSousa’s appeal for RYLA support.
Please volunteer at RYLA in January to transport delegates from the main camp area through the woods to the high Ropes course (about a half mile). Saturday and Sunday (Jan 19-20, 2019) AM (7:00-noon) and/or PM (1:00-6:00) shifts available.
Camp Pine Rock - right here in Prescott, will again be the site for RYLA, which will again be held over the Martin Luther King weekend, Friday to Monday, January 18-21, 2019. Individual members from the five clubs in our Area have traditionally provided this simple, yet integral service for the RYLA delegates.
Please contact Noel by return email .... Noel DeSousa noel.j.desousa.gmail.com@clubrunner.email ...if you are willing to help with this important responsibility indicating which days and AM or PM that you are willing to volunteer.
