Sunup Brainstorms in Table Groups

We had lively brainstorming discussions around four tables during our meeting last Wednesday.  The topic was "Community Service for This Year."  Rather than our Club Board deciding and tell us what Community Service projects they believe we should be doing, the roundtable brainstorming was designed to give every member of our club the opportinuty to have our input heard about the type of projects we want, and are willing to support with our committed participation.  There was certainly no lack of enthusiasm or participation, as every table was buzzing with ideas and opinions.

Community Service Director Marsha Teller promises the results from the notes taken during those lovely discussiona are being tabulated, and they will be shared with our club members.  Thanks to all for your participation in this grass roots approach to the planning of our Community Service Projects for this Rotary year.

We select our Rotary International Presidents three years ahead of the time they will be serving. While years of planning and preparation go into each President's opporunity to lead our most respected internationmal business & professional service organization, the term of office is just one single year.  Nothing can be more disappointing or disheartening that for one of our chosen Presidents-elect to be unable to serve as planned.

SangKoo Yun, a highly respoected Rotarian leader from Korea was to be our RI President next year.  This past week, SangKoo had to share this heartbreaking message with our Family of Rotary, based on his diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer:

"My doctors have advised me that it may not be possible for me to meet the demanding travel and schedule required of our President.  As much as I wish to serve in this role, I must honor that advice.  It has been a tremendous honor and pleasure to be given the opportunity to lead our organization.  I will continue to serve however I can, and my love for Rotary and my commitment to our mission remain unshaken."

Please keep SangKoo and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time — along with our Rotary Board of Directors, as they must select another Rotary leader from among those who had been nominated to serve as President for that year, to become our next RI President.

CLUB SERVICE
Sunup Rotary will be sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off compettion fundraiser at Touchmark on October 25.  Chefs from Prescott-area restaurants will be competing for "Best Chili" recognition, and each of the Rotary clubs willl also have an entry in the competition.  Up to 300 $25 tickets will be sold, which will permit the purchaser to come and try a cup of a number of the competitors' chili recipes.  Emmett Jones, who is heading up the event, says he already has 8 chefs lined up to compete, and he is looking for more.

So how good is YOUR chili?  We need a member of our club to serve as our Sunup Chili Chef to cook up our Sunup Rotary's entry in the competition.  If you know how to make great-tasting chili, let Emmett know.

Our satellite Prescott Valley Rotary Club continues to grow!  Three more new members were inducted at last week's meeting:

Patrick Kuykendall - Veterans Affairs

Joel Hurley - Merchant Services

Zack Caldwell  -  Real Estate

Welcome new members, as you begin your exciting Rotary journey!

Interact Explosion Happening
Due, in large part, to "the spade work" of the incredible Sophia Brown, Interact AG, Ambassador to Kenya, last year's Prescott High Interact Club President, and last year's Rotary District 5495 Interactor of the Year, this year's capable and committed Interact Assistant Governors are following through and turning Sophia's Vision into a Reality: An Interact Clubs Explosion in the Prescott area

Rotary DG Jim Schmidt just sent the signed Interact Club Certification form to Rotary Internationsl to charter our new Interact Club at Mile High Middle School.  Expect this year the reactivation of the Interact Clubs we have aponsored at Northpoint Expeditionary Academy and Chino Valley High School. You can also look forward to the chartering of new Interact Clubs at Tri-City College Prep Academy, Skyview School and BASIS Prescott (still to be decided if that will be a school-based or a community-based Interact Club).  Work is also underway for the formatuion of Interact Clubs at two middle schools in Prescott Valley.  We are encouraging the other three Rotary Clubs to join us in sponsoring these new clubs, which will open the doors to unique Rotary oportunities for so many more youth at these schools. who have never before had access to them.

I told a joke on a Zoom meeting, and nobody laughed.
Turns out I’m not even remotely funny.
__

The word “queue” is ironic.
It’s just a Q with a bunch of silent letters waiting in line.
__

Did you know that, before it was carved,
Mount Rushmore’s natural beauty was unpresidented?
__

The doctor said I need to eat more greens,
So I’m switching to mint chocolate ice cream.
__

To the thief who stole my glasses:
I will find you.  I have contacts,

Q – Why shouldn’t you fall in love with a pastry chef?
A – He’ll dessert you.
__

You know what annoys me is when you go to someone’s house and they make you take your shoes off at the front door.
9 times out of ten they don’t even have a bouncy castle.

Instead of “Single” as a marital status…
I prefer “Independently Owned and Operated.”

Hello fellow Sunupians,

Our club is gearing up for a packed year.  We have Marsha working on Scholarships for Trade School surpassing academic scholarships partially.  If you know of anyone who can get us a headline in the newspaper announcing our Trade School Scholarship intentions that is a great community awareness topic.  Marsha will be in town until September 12 so we need to utilize and help her as much as we can. She has purchased purple bracelets to sell at our meetings for $5 a each.  We need volunteers, as well, to take them to the other clubs. All proceeds will go to Alzheimer's research.  There will be a signup sheet at the next meeting.  Thank you Marsha for contributing the bracelets..  AS you know that means very much to me. All proceeds will go to Alzheimer's research.

If you live near Thumb Butte area keep a close watch out for bears.  I’m serious they are opening garbage cans and routing through them regularly.  Not knocking them over.
