Sunderland Discusses Current State of Travel
Christy Manning, Belinda Sutherland and Jane Anne Shimizu

If there was one message that came through loud and clear from Belinda Sutherland's presentation, it was the importance of purchasing Travel Insurance in these chaotic travel times.  She explained to us the many ways that safety net could avert travel disasters, and could prevent the loss of large amounts invested in trips.

Belinda also described the numerous ways that AI is being utilized by travel advisors to improve the quality of trips being planned, as well as saving immense amounts of time previously having to be invested in researching possible options for travelers.  She credited Jane Anne with implementing AI in their TravelCrafters Travel Agency.

Many in Rotary today do not know that key Rotarians were instrumental in helping to form the United Nations.  Rotary has also maintained a seat at the United Nations since its inception.

Consequently, Rotary International is commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations with a "Global Goals, Local Action" Celebration on December 11th at the War Memorial Veterans Building in San Francisco.  If you would like to learn more about this, here is the event link  https://www.globalgoalslocalaction.com/

CLUB SERVICE

We were saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Sara Van Bourgondien's husband, Greg Theno, last weekend.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Sarah, during these difficult days.  As your Rotary family, we share in your sorrow and your loss.

Although he doesn't appear to be ecstatic about our singing of "Happy Birthday" to him, we helped John Stewart celebrate his 80th birthday at our club meeting last week.

Here's a happier shot of John's 80th we just received.  Happy Birthday, John!  We love you and appreciate you!

My musical director wasn't happy with the performance of one of our percussionists. Repeated attempts to get the drummer to improve failed. Finally, in front of the orchestra, the director said in frustration, "When a musician just can't handle his instrument, they take it away, give him two sticks and make him a drummer!"

A stage whisper was heard from the percussion section: "And if he can't handle that, they take away one of his sticks and make him a conductor."

An Amish woman was driving her horse and buggy into town with her young son when she was stopped by a highway patrolman.
“I’m not going to give you a ticket,” the officer said, “I just wanted to warn you that the reflector on the back of your car is broken and could be dangerous.”
“Thank you,” said the Amish woman, “I will have my husband fix it as soon as I get home.”
“Also,” said the officer, “I noticed that one of your horse’s reins is tied around the horse’s testicles. Some might consider that ‘cruelty to animals,’ so you’d better have your husband check that out, too.”
“Thank you again,” said the Amish woman, “I will have my husband look into that when I get home.”
When the Amish woman returned home, she told her husband about the broken reflector, and he said he would fix it right away.
“Also,” the Amish woman said, “the police officer said there was something wrong with our emergency brake.

Announcements

Meeting Wednesday @ 6:30 am
The Hassayampa Inn - Arizona Room

SPEAKER:  Kristy Diaz-Trahan
SUBJECT: Prescott Recreation Services

The Prez Says
Christy Manning, Co-President

The holiday season is upon us, and it’s a wonderful time to reflect on the spirit of service that defines Rotary.  As we look ahead, we have meaningful opportunities to make an impact and celebrate the fellowship that strengthens our club.

Our Mayer Kids Project is coming up soon, where we will assemble holiday totes for children in need in Mayer. This project truly embodies Service Above Self, and I’m grateful for everyone who gives their time and heart to make it special.

We also have our Holiday Party coming up on December 17th, a chance to gather for fun, friendship, and the joy of Rotary camaraderie during this festive season.

Please note that we will be dark on Wednesday, November 26th for the Thanksgiving holiday. I hope you enjoy this time with your families and reflect on the many ways Rotary helps us share gratitude through service.

On December 13th, a group of Rotarians will be participating in a special project to honor our veterans. This event is especially meaningful to me, as my dad rests in a Veteran’s Cemetery. I’ll be in Bellemont that day, paying tribute at his cemetery, and I’m grateful to those of you who will also be taking part in honoring the men and women who served our country at the Prescott Veteran’s Cemetery.

Wishing you all a season filled with gratitude, joy, and fellowship. Thank you for everything you do to carry forward the Rotary spirit.

Yours in Rotary service,

Christy
