President Laura began her President's Choice meeting last Wednesday by announcing that the Club Board has named Cassidy Stauffer to be the new Club Service Director.  She also announced that Tim Wiederaenders has been appointed to serve as the Chair of the Program Committee.  Appreciation was expressed to A.J. Sheridan, who has effectively led the Program Committee the past several years.  He had been calling for a replacement by July 1.

 

The main focus of the meeting was on a review and evaluation of our club's just-completed Double-Down.  Jane Anne was applauded for the enormous amount of work she put into this year's fundraiser.  Laura stated that, although the net proceeds from  our Double-Down event did not reach our financial goals, it was successful in her eyes because everyone pulled together, and we had a wonderful night with beautiful weather.  Considerable discussion was given to the lessons learned, the large amount of overhead cost for this type of fundraiser, possible solutions to the parking limitations, how wind and bad weather can affect an outdoor event, other possible venues, recognition that Casino nights attract one type of audience, and the fact that other organizations had held competing Casino nights in the several months before our event.  Great interest was shown in the possibility of sponsoring a different type of fundraiser next year which would be unique in the Prescott area, would involve less overhead, and would draw a wider range of participation.  Also discussed was the possibility of having multiple fundraisers, rather than a single one each  year.  Whatever type of fundraiser is chosen, it was noted that most businesses, organizations and foundations do their budgeting in the fall for the donations they plan to make during the following year.  Consequently, appeals for their funds need to be made now.  Glen offered to draft an appeal letter which can be sent by President Laura to businesses and other potential donors. 

 

Christy's committee will be exploring alternative fundraisers, and will consider costs, manpower, energy, resources and the potential return on investment.  Laura announced that budgeting has been paused "until we sort this out."

The big news in Club Service week is the Board's selection of Cassidy Stauffer to serve as the Club Service Director, and Tim Wiederaenders as the new Program Committee Chair.  Congratulations to both on their new roles and responsibilities!

 

Jerry Fohrman, still in the hospital in Phoenix, had been making good progress, as we have been reporting each week.  However, this past week he has had several serious setbacks, and Janet is asking for our prayers on his behalf.  After having a serious a-fib episode, the decision was made to replace his 2-year-old pacemaker.   However, they discovered a 100% blockage of the vein the pacemaker lines had been feeding through, and they could find no other viable veins.  As an alternate plan, on Monday an S-ICD defibrillator device, may be implanted under the skin, with a sensor that runs along the breastbone, instead of an internal wire lead into the heart.
