B & G Clubs - An Adventure Every Day
an adventure every day
after school and in the summer

It has been a number of years since our club has had Alex Heinemann, the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls clubs in our area, to come and give us an update on what is happening with this invaluable service to the families in our communities.  It was good to have him back with us.

With Clubhouses in Prescott and Prescott Valley, the Boys & Girls Clubs offer safe, affordable after-school and summer programs for youth ages 6-17.  According to Alex, our local Clubs are continuously adapting and evolving to meet the needs of our community youth and their families. Programs are designed to make a positive impact in these priority areas: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, Fun with a Purpose, and Healthy Lifestyles. They focus on creating opportunities for kids to have fun and learn in our beautiful outdoors.

While most of us grew up in an era where we made our own after-school fun in our backyards and neighborhoods, Alex told us the kids they are serving today don't seem to have that same inventiveness, or take that iniative to create for themselves.  Instead, they wait for someone else to create those adventures for them — or they get bored, and many times get into trouble.  The Boys & Girls Clubs partner with the families in our communities who need their help to provide the programs today's kids need.

When it was pointed out that, prior to the pandemic, several Boys & Girls Clubs in the Valley had partnered with Rotary's Interact program to enlarge the leadership training and service opportunities for the youth they serve, Alex said he would be interested in exploring the possibilities of partnering with Rotary in this way with the clubs up here.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Marsha Says:

1. There will be two meeting times available for Club members this coming Wednesday to discuss the Pancake Breakfast  (Saturday, May 9th at Doc's BBQ) which was voted on at last Wednesday's meeting. To accommodate everyone's schedule, please come at 6:30 a.m. or immediately following our regular meeting time.

2.  We have launched our blanket and fan drive for the community of Yarnell.  This outreach project will provide support for their community during extreme weather conditions. Fans need to be purchased to prevent the risk of fire.  Check your cupboard for extra blankets and bring them to the meeting.

3. Thank you to TIffany and Emmett, Laura, and Sarah for getting the Snack Shack in tip top shape for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for sign-up as well as new developments to the Shack.

4. We need a volunteer to deliver Breakfast Cub items in February and March.  A stipend will be given to you for expenses, as well as a list of items needed.  Delivery will be Wednesday Feb. 25th and Wednesday, March 25th. Contact Marsha for further information.

Now that the Snack Shack has been cleaned up, to further get it ready to operate this year, we need to restock the following itemsbefore the season begins:

1. Dish cloths
2. Dish towels (can be barely used)
3. Sponges
4. Any old bath towels? For bigger cleanups
5. Clean rags for wiping and cleaning surfaces

Please bring them to our Wednesday meetings. Fill the laundry basket !!!

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, March 28, at Yavapai College

My wife just got home.
She said, “I’ve got good news and bad news.”
I said, “Just give me the good news.”
She said, “The airbags work on your new car.”
__

Salesman’s Pitch: “This car will seat six people without any problem!”
My thought: “I don’t think I know six people without any problem.”
__

Not all construction work is equally enjoyable.
For example: enlarging a drilled hole is boring, but fastening two pieces of metal together is riveting.
__

I told my doctor every time I bend down I see Mickey Mouse, and every time I stand up I see Donald Duck.
She asked me how long I’ve been having these Disney spells.
__

So I was in a shoe store this morning trying on a shoe.  I said to the salesperson, “It’s too tight.”
She said, “Try it with the tongue out.”
I said, It’th thoo thight!”
__

I just saw some fool put a water bottle in the pringles holder on the treadmill!
__

FUN FACT:
Alligators can live up to 100 years.
That is why there is an increased chance that they will see you later.

SPEAKER:  Alex Heinemann
SUBJECT:  PV/Area Boys and Girls Club

The Prez Says
Christy Manning, Co-President

The past couple of weeks have been energizing for our club, and I want to start by thanking everyone who helped welcome the guests we’ve had recently. It’s always exciting to see new faces at our meetings, and it’s a great reminder of how strong and inviting our Rotary community is when we show up and share our “why.”

As we continue to grow, I encourage each of you to keep inviting friends, colleagues, and community members to join us. Membership growth starts with simple conversations and genuine connections—and no one does that better than Rotarians.

Looking ahead, I’m also excited about our upcoming Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. I hope to see strong participation, whether that’s helping with planning, volunteering the day of, or spreading the word. When we come together, these events are not only successful—they’re fun.

Thank you for all you do to make our club active, welcoming, and impactful. I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Christy
