Meeting Wednesdays @ 6:30 am
The Hassayampa Inn

Speaker:  Tyler Goodman, Prescott City Manager

What's Happening

Thank you Guest Mayor Phil Goode

Written by Laura Vanderberg

Speaker Mayor Goode shared an update on "The State of the City of Prescott".

He discussed the different boards and commissions that effectively run our city.  Go to the "Public Meeting Video Library" to hear the latest issues.

Mayor Goode talked about needing to slow growth in north Prescott building because public safety is being stretched.  He said that building has slowed because of, at least in part, the increased interest rates.  Building permits are down more than 60% in Prescott this year.

He also talked about community input into the General Plan Review Committee.  The next meeting is on March 29th at 1:30pm at 201 North Montezuma Street on the 3rd Floor.

He would like everyone's input because it's really a blueprint for where the city will go over the next 10 years, but few people actually have read the 128 page document.  Contact The Planning Division Front desk for your copy or call 928-777-1207.

Prescott sales tax has been reduced to 8.35% from 9.1% effective January 2023.

If you get charged the old tax rate, please bring it to the attention of the business and you can contact Erin, the tax analyst at the City.  She will send a corrective action letter to the business.

Welcome New Member

We welcomed Marty Coleman officially into Club today.  His sponsor is Glen Hammond.

Marty is a public defender here in Prescott and sees his job as his mission in life.

He appreciates that  our members also live their commitment to service and he's glad to be a part of our club!

Marty's daughter is a junior at PHS, and is a member of the PHS Interact Club. Welcome!

The Snack Shack

We need volunteers for the Snack Shack!  This was one of our club's top 3 priorities for service- let's do it!

Snack Shack is located at Bill Vallaley Field #1 (off Washington, at the back of Yavapai College)!  We're selling packaged foods and beverages during the Yavapai College Softball games &  Little League games.

We need 2 volunteers for each shift. Bring your spouse, partner, child or friend.

Thursday, March 28, 1 & 3 pm games:  2 people needed

Contact Tim directly at twieds@prescottaz.com

Double Down Casino Night Update

Let's sell tickets and get donations

Jane Anne suggested that when people ask for donations they lead with the amazing scholarships we gave last year- $18,000 worth, and that we want to raise $35,000 this year!

Please have donors fill out the form, and get it back to us.  Also- very important!  Jane Anne reminded everyone that you actually have to collect the donation, in whatever form!

The donation or sponsorship isn't complete without the money or item in hand!

Saturday, June 17th  5p-9p at the Prescott Vibes Event Center.

Located at: 6200 North Rt. 89, Prescott (near the Prescott Airport)

Contact Jane Anne Shimizu928-636-4565 Ext. 4 or jashimizu@gunsite.com

Club members will be going out to the other Prescott Rotary Clubs to share information about DD and sell tickets.

Club members will be selling hard copy tickets, and for the internet/Square- savvy amongst us, you can also buy tickets by going to our website and clicking on the Double Down logo.

OR GO TO: https://sunup-double-down.square.site/

Every club member is expected to sell 10 tickets. Get table sponsors and donations! Go now!

We need dealers for our 21 tables. Celebrity dealers and Prescott Residents encouraged.

Remember, our ability to offer scholarships is directly related to our success with Double Down.  The more donors, the more money raised, the more scholarships we're able to give to deserving graduating seniors- for both college and vocational schools.

Help us support our youth!

Meeting Notes:

Joke of the Day:  What has 18 legs, spits uncontrollably & catches flies?  The Mayor got it!  A Baseball Team! It's baseball season and that means Little League and time to sign up to volunteer at the Snack Shack!

Guests today included Dan Simick (Frontier Club), Buddy Sims (Goodyear Rotary) and Mr. Mayor Phil Goode.

New club member Stella led us in song today- she divided us into groups and we sang Row, Row, Row Your Boat in rounds by table!  It was an enthusiastic rendition and perfect for today's rainy weather!  Thank you Stella!

Join us!

Anyone knows of members who might be interested in joining our program group please encourage them to get in touch with Jane Anne Shimizu928-636-4565 Ext. 4 or jashimizu@gunsite.com

Last week I shared a bit about change.  Well, here we are, more change!

We’re springing into action on a variety of fronts!

We’re stepping back into the Snack Shack, but it’s different than it was before- change!

Right now, we’re offering only packaged goods- and the opportunity to serve our local community.

Sharing your time to give kids and young families a real ball field experience is an amazing gift!

At the same time as we’re getting the Snack Shack going, we’re also in the throes of getting Sponsors and Donors for DoubleDown and our Rotary Week of Service Food Drive.

So, more change here as we, the Club, are getting busier with service activities this spring/summer.

I invite all of you to get involved- we need you! And even better, grab a friend, colleague or neighbor and bring them along with you!

You know it’ll be fun- share the fun!

This is part of our Why and Hows!

Let’s get going!

I look forward to seeing you all at these different activities.

Make it a great week!

Warm Regards,

Laura Vanderberg
