Suzie Says School Libraries Need Newer Books
Due to all of the education budget cuts over the years, none of our schools have a school librarian anymore.  Suzie Roth has the daunting task of serving as our Yavapai County School Librarian, working with all of these schools and their libraries.  Her position is actually funded by the Yavapai County Free Library District, which was created by the county's Board of Supervisors in 1987.  For the past five years, Suzie has been diligently working to update the old and worn-out books in each of our school libraries, seeking to replace them with more contemporary and attractive hardback books which will entice students to want to select and read them.

Suzie's Bring On The Books initiative has been succeeding in getting donations of newer books, and in raising funds to purchase brand new books for these libraries.  She brought with her last Wednesday Steve and Susan Reynolds, who are volunteers committed to promotiong this program.  The summary flyer above tells how each of us can help with this worthwhile effort.

Rotary International is the world's oldest and most-respected business & professional service organization, with more than 1.2 million members in over 200 countries and territories around the world.  We have our district, regional and international organizational structures.  However, Rotary happens at the club level.  We are a grass-roots organization that specializes in recognizing needs, and taking action — and that usually happens at the club level.  Help us to continually improve our Rotary club, because this is where Rotary begins.  If we succeed at the club level. we will probably succeed at all of the other levels, as well.

CLUB SERVICE

Happy Birthday, Vicki!

Our club helped Vicki Mickel celebrate her birthday at our meeting last week.  Photos were a problem, due to the window glare in our temporary use of a side room, since the hotel needed the Arizona Room for college testing that day.

Here is the missing photo from last week's newsletter, mentioned by Pres-Elect Laura in her article, which arrived too late to include in that issue.  Take special note of Sarah's hat — which won the Best Hat competition for the second year in a row.  Congratulations, Sarah!  The Prescott women's shelter has been a long-time community service project of our club.

ROTARY FOUNDATION

District Governor Jim Schmidt has announced ...

This is one of those defining Rotary moments—the kind we will look back on and say, this is when everything changed.

An anonymous donor from our district has stepped forward with an extraordinary commitment:
a $1,750,000 MATCH for ALL qualified gifts made during our Together We Raise Major & Legacy Giving Campaign.

Let that sink in—every dollar you give has the power to be doubled.

What does that mean? It means:
   • Clean water for communities that need it most
   • Education and opportunity for women and children
   • Disease prevention, peacebuilding, and economic growth
   • A lasting Rotary legacy that reaches far beyond our lifetime

This is more than a campaign.

This is a chance to multiply our impact in a way we may never see again.

Together, we have always stepped up.

Now, we have the opportunity to step forward in an even bigger way.

Let’s show what District 5495 can do when we lead together, serve together, and give together.

Finally – my winter fat is gone!
Now I have spring rolls.

You can't imagine the pain I felt when my wife told me that the beautiful little five-year-old boy sitting in our kitchen wasn't really my son.
I definitely need to pay more attention at kindergarten pickup.
__

Q - What’s the difference between a lion and a tiger?
A - A tiger always tells the truth.  The other one is always “lion.”

If you notice everything coming your way,
You’re probably going the wrong way!
__

To err is human.
To blame it on someone else
Shows management potential.

I got myself a Seniors GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination…
It also tells me why I wanted to go there.
__

I was thinking of all of the things I need to do today.
Suddenly my mind went blank.
Problem solved!
__

I only do what the voices in my wife's head
Tell her to tell me to do.
__

Not a funny - but so very true:

Love is a verb.
Without action it is merely a word.
