City Manager's Candid Discussion Appreciated

Our club members apreciated the very candid presentation by City Manager Dallin Kimball at last Wednesday's meeting.  He shared with us his very positive outlook about Precott's present and future, along with some of the happenings about which he is most excited.

After this summer's announcement that the city will receive $15.3 million for critical improvements of the Prescott Rodeo Grounds, which Kimball said would be primarily used for installing underground utilities, ADA compliance and improved seating and sound, he was anticipating the City Council's approval of a new Master Plan for the Rodeo Grounds' 43-acre site off Gail Gardner Way.  Also particularly exciting for him was a proposed Prescott Regional Airport runway shift and extension.  He told us that would save the city millions of dollare in land acquisition costs, as well as expanding the airport's ability to handle larger aircraft, including the largest fire-fighting tankers.

Where Prescott-Sunup Excels

Rotary has five Avenues of Service: Club, Community, Vocational, International and Youth.  Our Sunup Rotary Club has particularly excelled in Community, International and Youth.  However, that which makes us exceptional among all of the other community service clubs in town has been our International Service. In fact, Sunup Rotary has been one of the Rotary leaders in International Service in all of Arizona.

Most of our club's amazing International Service Projects (see the list below, under International Service) have emanated from a remarkable International Projects Fair, which is held annually, rotating each year between locations in Arizona and central Mexico.  For more than 20 years we have been building relationahips and creating partnerships between Rotary Clubs and Districts to meet identified needs in countries around the world, through the use of Rotary Foundation Global Grants  — including a number of projects which have been located right here in Arizona.  It all begins at the Mexico-USA Friendship Conference and Global Grants Exchsange, and this year it will be relatively close-by in Yuma.  Our International Service Director, Todd Clancy. will be representing our club there in Yuma, along with John Stewart, another member of the Internatonal Service Committee.  They are looking for others who may be interested in becoming members of the International Service Committee, and anyone who is willing to join them in Yuma for this incredible conference, Oct. 31 - Nov. 3.

Support Our Bundles of Love Diaper Drive

Please bring your diapers ( sizes 4, 5, and 6) and /or Pull Ups to our meeting this Wednesday, or you can order from Amazon, Target, etc. and have them delivered to Marsha Teller at: 6849 Golden Tree Drive, Prescott, Az 86305
Amazon has several non-brand names that are quite reasonable. In addition, if you want to just hand her cash, Marsha will be happy to accept your donations, and she will do the footwork for you!

Also very important:  If you have barely used board or picture books, please bring them as well. They will be packaged with your diapers to encourage reading readiness.

SPEAKER: Clark Tenney
SUBJECT: PUSD School Superintendent

The Prez Says
Jane Anne Shimizu

Hello, Fellow Rotarians,

My sincere thanks to President-Elect Col. Russ Davis for presiding at last week's meeting, while I have been away on a greatly-anticipated trip to Colombia.  He is so capable, and I am sure he did a great job.

The Alzheimer's Walk was this past Saturday.  Thanks to our members who bought purple bracelets from Marsha, helping to raise the funds for our club's entry in the walk, and to Jane White for agreeing to represent Sunup Rotary in that walk.

Todd Clancy has been doing an especially good job as our club's International Service Director.  He is one of the reasons our club excels in this area.  Please take the time to read in this issue of the newsletter his account of our club's amazing accomplishments through Global Grants we have helped to sponsor in recent years.  We can be proud of the good we have done, working in partnership with other clubs here in Arizona and in Mexico, empowered by the use of Rotary Foundation Global Grants.

I hope you are all having a good week, and that you will be able to make it to this week's meeting, when Clark Tenney, our PUSD School Superintendent, be updating us on what is happening with our local schools.
