Our club members apreciated the very candid presentation by City Manager Dallin Kimball at last Wednesday's meeting. He shared with us his very positive outlook about Precott's present and future, along with some of the happenings about which he is most excited. After this summer's announcement that the city will receive $15.3 million for critical improvements of the Prescott Rodeo Grounds, which Kimball said would be primarily used for installing underground utilities, ADA compliance and improved seating and sound, he was anticipating the City Council's approval of a new Master Plan for the Rodeo Grounds' 43-acre site off Gail Gardner Way. Also particularly exciting for him was a proposed Prescott Regional Airport runway shift and extension. He told us that would save the city millions of dollare in land acquisition costs, as well as expanding the airport's ability to handle larger aircraft, including the largest fire-fighting tankers. Where Prescott-Sunup Excels Rotary has five Avenues of Service: Club, Community, Vocational, International and Youth. Our Sunup Rotary Club has particularly excelled in Community, International and Youth. However, that which makes us exceptional among all of the other community service clubs in town has been our International Service. In fact, Sunup Rotary has been one of the Rotary leaders in International Service in all of Arizona. Most of our club's amazing International Service Projects (see the list below, under International Service) have emanated from a remarkable International Projects Fair, which is held annually, rotating each year between locations in Arizona and central Mexico. For more than 20 years we have been building relationahips and creating partnerships between Rotary Clubs and Districts to meet identified needs in countries around the world, through the use of Rotary Foundation Global Grants — including a number of projects which have been located right here in Arizona. It all begins at the Mexico-USA Friendship Conference and Global Grants Exchsange, and this year it will be relatively close-by in Yuma. Our International Service Director, Todd Clancy. will be representing our club there in Yuma, along with John Stewart, another member of the Internatonal Service Committee. They are looking for others who may be interested in becoming members of the International Service Committee, and anyone who is willing to join them in Yuma for this incredible conference, Oct. 31 - Nov. 3.
