Ray announced that he sent out a request for help with Gabriel’s transportation and the response from Art,Terry and Steve was tremendous. Buyers were recruited for the snack shack, and Greg Barstad announced Feb 9th is the date we will be moving the medical supplies into storage from the doctor’s office that donated them.
Jane Anne and Matt were the SGTS last week. She started off with asking who wants a sponsor form for Double Down Casino night and was surprised at the response. Thanks for stepping up for this fundraiser. Everyone who is helping Todd Clancy with the snack shack avoided a fine, and we were all glad Val’s black eye wasn’t from a domestic dispute with sweet Linda. Neal proclaimed he’s getting older and was fined a buck because we are all getting older, and again for rhythmically swaying with the song. In the end Ida won the pot.
Last Weeks Speaker: Art Harrington our own club member gave us an overall of what the Rotary Foundation is all about. The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. Rotary has 1,232,185 members worldwide. There are 242,949 Rotaract Clubs (young adults ages 18-30 and many Interact clubs which are high school age students.
There are district grants which support smaller local projects like the Yarnell water distribution grant Sunup worked to replace the controller after the fire. There are also Global grants supporting $30,00 to several hundred thousand like our water projects we have done in Kenya for the last 13 years. Since 1985 Rotary’s #1 priority was to knockout polio. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches 2-1 for every dollar donated to the polio project. Art’s goal is to have 100% of our members to be a Paul Harris Fellow this year.
Good morning Sun-Upians … Today’s missive is in the form of a “shout-out” … Thanks to Terri and Terry Smith, A.J., and Todd for stepping up and taking charge of the Snack shack. … Thank you Dan Beyer for your years of support and assistance in the critical provisioning (i.e. Buying … or is that beyering) for the snack shack. And lastly, thanks to all of you who will be taking time out of your schedules to make this shacking endeavor a success for the club.
