He graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Master of Science in Environmental Science. Freeport-McMoRan Inc. owns the Bagdad copper mine; one of the largest copper resources in the world. Mining here began in 1882 and in 2016 more than 173,000,000 pounds of copper were mined. The mine has been an Open Pit mine since 1945, the end of WW2. It has a very large low grade ore deposit. Bagdad mine has a fleet of 34 260 ton haul trucks with 6 shovels. It mines 300K tons per day of material and runs 85-90K tons per day of copper through a concentrator. They produce 200 million pounds of copper annually. Bagdad is the oldest continuously running SX/EW plant with over 1000 employees. Their total economic impact on Yavapai County is $130.6 million. |
