What began as a hobby, eventually became Ives Devos' profession. Today Ives is one of the 20 internationally recognized Antique Firearms Dealers. As Ives explained to us, Antique Firearms are weapons which were manufactured prior to 1898. He said the collection he brought with him for our club members to view and personally examine is worth approximately $25,000. He showed us how the weapons evolved from a single shot barrel, to different types of rotating multiple barrels, to the development of a rotating cylinder, which most of us recognize as a revolver. It was a fascinating presentation. Our newer members may be unaware that Ives has homes in both Prescott and in Belgium. In addition to his involvement with our Prescott-Sunup Rotary Club, Ives is currently serving as the District Governor of Rotary District 2160, which includes Belgium and Luxembourg. OLAYINKA HAKEEM BABALOLA, RIPE As we shared with you two weeks ago, due to his advanced prostate cancer, RI President-Elect (RIPE) SanKoo Yun, from Korea, felt it was necessary for him to resign as our next Rotary International President. In such a case, RI's Bylaws require the Board of Directors to select a successor from one of the other Rotary leaders who had also been nominated to serve for that year. It was announced this past week that Olayinka Kaheem Babalola, a member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Nigeria, has been selected to be our next President of Rotary International. He will actually be the second President we have had from Nogeria. Having begun his Rotary journey as a Rotaractor in 1988, Babalola received a university degree in engineering that same year. He worked for 25 years in the oil and gas industry, holding senior positions with Shell PLC. and carrying out projects on four continents. He has since founded two companies, Riviera Services Ltd, an oil and gas infrastructure delivery company, and Lead and Change Consulting, an executive coaching and organizational performance advisory group. He has held many senior leadership positions in Rotary, including serving as our RI Vice-President in 2019-20. CLUB SERVICE We are excited to see more new members being added to our satellite Prescott Valley Rotary Club: New members inducted at the August 12 meeting were Zack Caldwell (Real Eatate), Patrick Kukendall (Veterans Services) and Joe Hurley (Merchant Credit Card Services). New members inducted at the club's August 26 meeting were David Kingston (Edward Jones Financial Srvices), Greg Gummersall (Artist) and Bryan Campbell (USVETS.org). The club is officially at 31 mmbers now, and expects to be bringing in another 3 new members on Sept. 9, and 2 more on Sept. 23. A Club Charter Party is being planned for November 14. This is a photo of the Rotary Leadership Institute Level 1 Sesssion, which was hosted by DGE Joe & Linda Sweeney at their PV home on August 9. Several of our club members participated in this RLI session, and our PDG Don Schiller (right end of front row) stopped by to encourage the group. COMMUNITY SERVICE Community Service Director Marsha Says: Thank you for your generosity in purchasing purple bracelets for Alzheimer's research. Please bring your five dollars to this week's meeting. This Friday, September 5th is the Healing Fields Flag Installation at Prescott Valley Civic Center. Please arrive slightly before 7:00 a.m and meet at the registration desk. Marsha Teller will have the list of those who signed up as well as their order numbers. Wear your SunUp Rotary Hat/Shirt. President's Choice on October 8th will be for Bundles of Love Diaper Collection. You can begin bringing diapers next week Wednesday to our meeting or through Amazon with delivery to Marsha Teller. Specific diaper sizes will be made available before the next meeting as well as a delivery address if preferable.To encourage Reading Readiness, Bundles of Love is also requesting new or barely used books for younger readers. They will be boxed with the diapers. Now is your opportunity to put those books in your collection to good use. YOUTH SERVICE PHS Interact's first meeting of the year on 8-26-25 Our Prescott High School Interact Club is getting off to a great start this year, under the leadership of Club President Ceiba Sherman. About 40 attended the club's first meeting this past Tuesday.  I renamed my toilet Jim, instead of John.
