Rotary's Partnership with ShelterBox Disaster Relief Explained

We were privileged to have with us on Wednesday DGE Leo Lawerson from our neighboring southern Arizona District 5100 to talk to us about the amazing ShelterBox Rotary disaster relief program.  ShelterBox began in 2000 as a Cornish Rotary Club’s millennium project. With the support of Rotary members and clubs around the world, ShelterBox grew to become an internationally recognised, independent disaster relief organisation. Since 2012, ShelterBox and Rotary have been official Project Partners in disaster relief.  Rotary General Secretary John Hewko says, “The partnership between Rotary and ShelterBox has provided a place of refuge to people facing some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives.”

ShelterBox has been one of the best examples of what one Rotarian can do with an good idea — beginning by sharing it with his own Rotary club.  The idea that one green tub could contain a tent to acommodate 10 people, along with food and cooking eating utensils, and much more, to help a family in a disaster situation, was the basis of the ShelterBox disaster relief program.  Leo serves as the Arizona representative of this program which has so-far helped tens of thousands of people around the world who have been caught up in natural disasters.  He is looking for a Rotarian in northern Arizona who would be willing to help him to more widely represent the program here in this part of the state.

CLUB SERVICE

Club meetings are never dull when it is Todd Clancy's turn to be Sgt-at-Arms,

At last week's meeting, among other things, Todd was auctioning off a Taco Piñata, complete with decorated stiking stick

COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Signup Genius has the scheduloe loaded for this week.

There are 2 games on each field, Monday through Friday.  This is a great opportunity for Sunup to make some money, while performing an appreciated Commuity Service.

Prescott-Sunup's 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off is happening this Saturday, October 24, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Touchmark in the former Fen Restaurant.

VETERAN'S DAY PARADE ROTARY FLOAT

Here is the schedule for putting together the float.

If you have questions please contact Judy (928-899-7355) or Par (928-925-4904).

Judy will have the crepe paper and the pattern ready by the 14th to hand out to be cut into feathers.  These will need to be done by the 4th of November, but can be done at your convenience during that time.

Welding will be at 8:30 AM the 28th at Ponderosa Storage.
Tentative schedule for putting on the chicken wire is 1-5 PM November 1.
Tentative schedule for putting the feathers on is 1- 5 PM November 7, and 1-5 PM November 8.  This will depend heavily on whether or not rain is scheduled.  I will update you before your meeting on the 5th.
Branches and finishing touches will be November 10,  11 AM to 5 PM.
I will be there all of those hours.  If anyone has just an hour or two to help on any of those days, you are welcome to come and help!
