Carmen Hines' Bikes Project May Be Adopted by our new PV Rotary Club

We were delighted to have Carmen Hines, from C & C Cyclery in Prescott Valley, as our speaker last week.  After purchasing the old Bike Works Store in PV, she and her husband Casey opened their new business in that location in early 2023.  They pride themselves on offering a diverse range of products to suit every rider's needs, including sleek road bikes and rugged mountain bikes.  They also carry a variety of e-bikes, hybrids, and kids' bikes; and they will help you choose the right bike, customize your fit, and provide ongoing maintenance and repair services to keep you pedaling smoothly.

As a family-owned and operated local business, they are strong supporters of our community. C and C Cyclery participates in events at the Wheel House BMX, works with the Boys and Girls Club, Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce, Matforce/Yavapai Reentry, Yavapai Sheriff’s Office and several behavioral health facilities.

A large part of Carmen's presentation dealt with the nonprofit she has created to help provide bikes to those who need them, but can't afford them.  They accept, and are eager to get, bike and parts donations.

During the Q and A afterwards, it appeared that her bikes project would be a very good fit for our new PV satellite Rotary Club, and that she would be a great new member for that club.

Thanks, Carmen, for an interesting and enjoyable program.  We do hope you will join us in Rotary.

Leadership Training - an Integral Part of Rotary

No organization ever succeeds or grows beyond the shadow of its leadership.  For this reason, our Rotary Dstrct 5495 offers club members a number of levels of leadership training:

   •  Southwest PETS (President-Elect Training Seminar) -for incoming Club Presidents

   •  Club Leadership Academy - for all club officers and club board members

   •  Rotary Leadership Institute - for all club members

   • Rotary Leadership Academy - for Past Club Presidents, willing to train and serve at the District Leadership level

CLUB SERVICE

It's not the greatest picture — but you can see PVPD Chief Bob Ticer speaking, with DGN Joe Sweeney working in the background.  The first meeting of our satellite Prescottt Valley Rotary Club could not have been any better!  These two guys, who will be serving as the Co-Presidents of the club, had really done their work in advance, and they were prepared with signs, banners, a great program — and even a taco dinner for everyone who attended.  Six new member applications were received at the meeting, and more are expected in the next few weeks.

The new Prescott Valley Rotary Club will be meeting at 4:30 p.m. at the PV Elks Club on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month.  Support the new club by attending when you can, and take a prospective member, living in PV, along with you, to help build the membership of this exciting new club.

REMINDING YOU that the 5:30 p.m. Fundraising Committee this Tuesday, Jan. 21, at The Finn, at Touchmark.

YOUTH SERVICE

We are so proud of Ciara Coleman, who has been announced as the winner of this year's Nancy Van Pelt Peace Essay Scholarship!  Ciara is an active member and leader in our Prescott High School Interact Club, and admirably served as one of our Interact Ambassadors to Mexico two years ago.  We were elated to have her as our special guest last Wednesday, to read her moving essay for our club.  She is the daughter of our former club member, Marty Coleman.  Congratulations, Ciara!

RYLA 2025 — a great group of young leaders, under the direction of our A.J. Sheridan, the RYLA Chair. The red sweatshirts in the foreground are the Junior Counselors.  After distinguishing themselves as outstanding RYLA delegates in a prior year, they are able to apply for one of the highly-sought-after JC positions, to help give other youth the incomparable RYLA experience they had.

FRIENDS ARE LIKE PANTIES
Some crawl up your butt.
Some don’t have the strength to hold you up.
Some get a little twisted.
Some are your favorite.
Some are holy.
Some are cheap.
Some are naughty.
And some actually cover your butt when you need them to.

This weekend is an exciting time for Rotary and our youth as the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is taking place.  RYLA is one of Rotary’s most impactful programs, designed to inspire, empower and equip young leaders with the skills they need to succeed.  Through workshops, team-building exercises, and discussions on service and leadership, participants gain invaluable experiences that shape their future and strengthen our communities.

We are incredibly proud of our very own AJ, who is serving as the District Director of RYLA.  AJ’s tireless dedication, passion, and leadership are at the heart of this program’s success, and we are grateful for his unwavering commitment to creating a transformative experience for all involved.  His efforts ensure that RYLA continues to reflect Rotary’s mission of service and leadership development.

A special thank you also goes to the many volunteers, mentors, and supporters who have contributed their time and energy to make this weekend possible.  Your hard work behind the scenes and dedication to our youth make an enduring difference.

RYLA is a shining example of how Rotary invests in the leaders of tomorrow.  Let’s take pride in the incredible work being done this weekend, and in the lasting impact we’re making together.  Thank you all for your support and commitment!

I’ll see you all on Wednesday!
