For most of us, who are relatively "late arrivals" in this area, the names of many places and developments have little meaning, However, after listening to Joe Konkel's fascinating stories about the Ranch Family Histories of this part of the state, we learned that many of these developments were once part of some very large ranches. Joe tald us not only about the ranches, but he also narrated for us colorful tales of the some of the individuals and families who acquired, built and worked those ranches. A number of them have helped to shape our community and its services we enjoy through their philanthropy. We have had the privilege of having Joe Konkel with us on previous occasions, related to the annual Cowboy Poets Gathering, He has emerged as the Historian of that event; and each year, based on his research, the Cowboy Poets Gathering features a diffeent ranch family.. Thank you, Joe, for enlightening us! We will look forward to your next visit. Rotary brings out the Super-Hero in all of us. Putting "Service Above Self," Rotarians each day look for opportunities to meet needs and to make a difference in other people's lives. Sometimes we act alone, and other times we enlist the help of our fellow-Rotarians. As the result, individually and together we are helping to make this workd a bettert place. Today, find the Hero within you, and bless someone with an Act of Kindness! CLUB SERVICE Matt Greenlee's birthday was celebrated in style by our club last week. Happy Birthday, Matt! Among his most surprising revelations was the fact that, in addition to playng football at the schoool, he was the Club President of the Westwood High School Interact Club in 1970.
