Speaker 3/4: Col. Bob Shanks P.H.D on Situational Awareness and Safety. Par Woods introduced Bob. He is a retired USAF Col. He is a Mustang = started as an Airman and worked up to Colonel. Taught at ERAU pt- 10 years. He addressed the importance of being aware of your surroundings and people. See Something, Say Something is important. It may be a gut call but should be a consideration but not be paranoid. It is a basic building block of our collective security. Important to maintain a proper mindset looking out for self and neighbors. Make it a discipline and practice it regularly. 5 levels: Comatose: unaware, High Alert, Focused Awareness, Relaxed Awareness, Tuned Out – Unaware. Told about working in Albania before Kosovo. Walked to work, in uniform until there was a bombing. Then no uni. They noticed a guy on a bike following them from mom and pop hotel where they stayed. Finally asked host and he advised, much to their surprise that he hired a friend to watch over his guests.
I must say those of you who missed the tour of CTEC last week missed a truly enlightening experience. Thank you Richard Hernandez et al. for the fantastic look into the future.
