Supervisor Brooks Compton Alerts Us to County Changes Coming

After 6 months on the job as a County Supervisor, and now serving as the Asst. Chair of the Board, Brooks Compton related to us some of his concerns and priorities, which are already resulting in some major changes in direction for the Board.  Among them have been creatiung needed financial support for rural education in Yavapai County, along with updating the Board of Supervisors' Policies and Procedures, which he said date back to the 1950s.  Of particular concern to him has been the lack of checks and balances which need to be in place, in order to assure that commmunity needs are actually being met, and that new developments do, in fact, pass all of the requirements, before they are approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Brooks related an example of a proposed new 200-unit housing development, for which all of the boxes had been checked, indicating compliance with all of the requirements.  However, upon further checking, it was discovered that the supporting paperwork claimed required fire protection services which did not exist, and that the paperwork also contained fictitious signatures..  He also cited other examples, including compromising on required road widths, which is now the primary reason some residents are unable to obtain fire and other hazard insurance. He emphasized that he has "an open door policy," as a County Superevisor, and that he welcomes questions, comments and suggestions.

Our Mile High Middle School Interact Team

Interact AG Carly Duggan, Rotarian Advisor Jane White and Faculty Advisors Katie Winter and Heather Christians

Our Prescott-Sunup Rotary Club is sponsoring a new Interact Club at Mile High Middle School.  After years of trying to get an Interact Club at Mile High, it is finally happening!!  Several planning meetings have been held, and our club provided scholarships for three Mile High students to attend JR RYLA in June.  These studenst are now eager to lead Mile High's first-ever Interact Club.  The club will be meeting weekly after school at 2:45 on Wednesdays, beginning August 20.  Our club's Jane White is super-excited about working with this new Interact Club as their Rotarian Advisor, and we are very fortunate to have Katie Winter and Heather Christians who are williing to serve as the Faculty Advisors.  Rounding out the leadership team for this new club is Carly Duggan, a PHS Interact leader and Assistant Governor.  We believe this middle school Interact Club will serve as a great "feeder club" for our Prescott High School Interact Club in the years ahead.

STAY TUNED:  There are more new Interact Clubs coming this year.

I just got fired from my new job for asking customers if they preferred smoking or non-smoking.
Apparently, the correct question at the funeral home is cremation or burial.

The Crazy days of summer are coming to an end.  I believe we have had exceptional weather for July.  Not enough rain but over cast enough to keep the temperatures down.
Art reports they wrapped up the Interact District Council training & planning Retreat at Camp Wamatochick last Sunday.  It was a productive retreat.  Those who were on our Ambassadors to Kenya team got back barely in time to participate in this retreat, after being stuck in NYC for 3 days.  Representatives from the Ambassadors to Mexico and to Kenya teams were with us as our program this a week ago..

As we step into August, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work we've accomplished together and the exciting initiatives ahead. Your dedication to our community and commitment to service exemplify the Rotary spirit. Let’s continue to inspire one another and make a positive impact!

The wrap up meeting for the Family Fun Fest was held on July 31st at the Touchmark.  Christy Manning, Tiffany and Emmett, Joe Brown, Jane White and at the end of the meeting Tara came in with some great suggestions for making this event even better next year.  It was decided we need to start soon planning the next event.  We discussed making the event more cohesive by bringing the registration table closer to the main building as well as selling pre-paid tickets like Frontier does with Grapes for Good.   We discussed better parking ideas and adding a silent auction to the raffle to make more money.  Also discussed ways to get the school district involved along with churches.  Touchmark also volunteered to help us with the beer and wine which would be most helpful.

We are looking for someone who can create a better flyer and making a HUGE sign 20’ X 30’ to put on the large hill under the Touchmark sign.  If you know of a sign company we could utilize inexpensively to make the sign please contact either myself or Emmett.
As we move through this Rotary year please participate in our future events.  Our community needs us to succeed and we need to volunteer and get involved.

If you have anything you would like for me to put into this newsletter please send it to me on Fridays as that is my day off to work on Rotary.

Thank you to all our members who make our Rotary great.  You know who you are…

Yours in Rotary Service,

Jane Anne
