Sunup Time monthly meetings are something new this year, initiated by Marsha Teller, our Community Service Director. Moderating this first Sunup Time Meeting this year were Marsha Teller (seated, due to her broken foot) and Club Secretary Parshalla Wood. The intent of these meetiungs is to provide greater input from club members about the fundraisers and projects our club undertakes. In order for that to be informed participation in the club decision-making, it has to begin with providing our members with more of the previous "behind the scenes" information, which only the club board has known in the past. Consequently, this first Sunup Time meeting included disclosing more ii-depth information about club finances, including the club's recently re-negotiated contract with the Hassayampa Inn, where our club meets.
Time was spent on considering some recommended community service projects, along with consideration of a proposed Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. Sarah Van Bourgondien, our Club Membership Chair, talked with us about ways we all need to begin working on rebuilding our club's membership, after successfully "birthing" a satellite Rotary club for Prescott Valley this year. Jane White shared with us the status of our Mile High Middle School Interact Club we also started this year, and there was some discussion about some esential work that needs to be done inside our Snack Shack, before this season's ball games begin. Pres.-Elect Russ Davis gave us a preview of his priorities for next year, and he noted that he has several board positions he wants to fill. The fact that we ran out of time for our discussions was a good thing. We will be looking forward to continuing our conversations on these topics, and others, at our next Sunup Time Meeting on February 25.
All things considered, it was apparent that we have a pretty awesome Rotary club, which has been accomplishing some phenomenal things.
Rotary's International Assembly, which was held in Orlando last week, is the annual event at which all of the incoming District Governors from around the world get their final intensive training for their year of district leadership. This year's International Assembly brought together 1,300 global leaders from 81 countries.
Two particularly significant things happened at this year's Assembly. RI President-Elect Olayinka "Yinka" Babalona, from Nigeria, inspired his team of District Governors with his address, which included the announcement of his Presidential Message, "Create Lasting Impact." It was a rallying cry to dream big, to serve deeply, and to lead with heart..
A second energizing and inspiring moment during this year's International Assembly came when a Rotarian couple from India, Ravishankar and Paola Dakaju announced that they have decided to give 4.5 billion Rupees (approx US$50 million) to The Rotary Foundation, the enabling arm of Rotary.
[Editorial note: It is interesting that, after the Rotary Board of Directors declared, several years ago, that there would no longer be an RI President's Annual Theme, we now have annual Presidential "Messages." This year's Message has been "Unite For Good."}

Thanks to all who participated in Wednesday's meeting. It was an encouraging turn out for our first Sunup Time Meeting. We had great input from members, and it provided an opportunity to hear from committees on current and upcoming events.

DISTRICT NEWS
Let's begin planning now to take a large delegation to this year's District Conference from our Sunup Rotary Club. It has been several years since we were well-represented at the Conference; and this one, under DG Jim Schmidt's leadership, looks like it will definitely be worth attending.
YOUTH SERVICE
RYLA is Happening!
144 high school age delegates registered for this year's RYLA at Camp Pinerock, here in Prescott. In the photo above, they are listening to Rotary DG Jim Schmidt's inspiring message during the opening assembly. Our club's own A.J. Sheridan has been capably serving at the RYLA Chair for the past three years. His leadership team this year included our Co-Pres. Christy Manning and Pres-Elect Russ Davis. In addition, that team has included many up-and-coming young leaders, who began their Rotary journey as RYLA delegates.

When they apply for a delegate position at RYLA, each student is assigned to a team, composed of other students from across our district. Not yet knowing each other, they learn how to build a tightly-knit team which faces together numerous challenges over the weekend. Each team bears the name of a country, and includes a foreign exchange student from that nation, giving the delagates an opportunity to learn about another country's culture. The red sweatshirt easily identifies the Junior Counselor leading that team.
JR RYLA APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN
Did you know that, if it had not been for the critical Founders Donations by our Sunup Rotary and the Lake Havasu Sunrise Rotary Clubs, this successful leadership development program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders would not exist today? We can be justly proud of this visionary and worthwhile investment our club made some years ago, and the fact that each year since our club provides four scholarships for delegates to attend JR RYLA, as well as four scholarships for SR RYLA delegates. We proudly serve as pacesetters for other Rotary clubs in our district, with our investments in our Rotary Youth Services..

My wife asked me why I spoke so softly in the house. I said I was afraid Mark Zucherberg was listening.
She laughed. I laughed. Alexa laughed. Siri laughed.

A lawyer was playing golf when he got hit by a ball. When the
player came over looking for the ball, the lawyer said, “I’m a lawyer,
and this will cost you $5,000.”
“I’m sorry,” said the golfer. “But I did say ‘fore.’”
“I’ll take it,” said the lawyer.

The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely. After the wedding at the wedding dinner, the bride broom leaned over and said to the groom broom “I think I am going to have a little whisk broom.”
Impossible!” said the groom broom.
“We haven’t even swept together!”

It was a practical session in the psychology class. The professor showed a large cage with a male rat in it. The rat was in the middle of the cage.
Then, the professor put a piece of cake on one side and put a female rat on the other side. The male rat ran towards the cake and ate it.
Then, the professor changed the cake and replaced it with some bread. The male rat again ran towards the bread.
This experiment went on with the professor changing the food every time.
And, every time, the male rat ran towards the food item and never towards the female rat.
Professor asked the students: This experiment shows that food is the greatest strength and attraction, do you agree?
Then, one of the students from the back rows said: "Sir, why don't you change the female rat? This one might be his wife!"
The professor stood straight up his finger pointing towards the student and said "You just got an A."
