Last Weeks Speaker: Ron Willams has dedicated his life to protecting his community. He is a 20-year law enforcement veteran who has worked for the City of Gardena Police Department (CA), Orange Police Department (CA) and Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (AZ). Ron has worked in urban, suburban, and rural communities, in such varied assignments as patrol, detectives, crime scene investigations, background investigations, field training and civil process. In 2014 Ron was elected to the Office of Constable for the Prescott Justice Precinct.
Ron told the story of ‘The hanging of Fleming Parker’. Parker was friends with Sheriff George Ruffner. He had served time in San Quentin. He was also a train robber, a check forger and a murderer. He was escaping from the Yavapai County Jail when he came across District Attorney Lee Noris and he shot him. The story told by Ron took us through the 1890’s through 1898 when on June 3, 1898 Sheriff Ruffner pulled the lever on his old friend Fleming Parker.
Good Morning Sun-Upians …. February is shaping up to be a full and exciting month. Wth the planning for Double-Down Casino Night starting up, Snack-Shack activities commencing, and the upcoming “invite a guest to Rotary” scheduled for March 20th, there are plenty of opportunities to get engaged in some really great activities … chances to pitch in and lend a hand to fellow Sun-Upians and make a difference in the Prescott community … I’ll close here by mentioning again the great opportunity that Art Harrington has tendered through the Rotary Foundation in the “Let’s Make A Deal” limited time offer to maximize points towards a Paul Harris membership. Whew… Time to roll up the sleeves and git er done …
To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time.
