We were privileged to have Bruce Rosenberg, the Director of the Prescott Habitat for Humanity,. give our club an update on how this humanitarian service organization is doing in our area. While the international organization will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, Bruce informed us that the Prescott program is currently celebrating their 35th year of providing affordable housing to deserving individuals and their families in our community. This year, the Prescott part of the program has also reached the significant milestone of building and providing homes for 100 families. "There are no free homes," Rosenberg emphased several times. Habitat has been known for requiring "sweat equity, with the individuals being served having to assist in some way in the building of their home. He explained that providing an affordable home to a family does involve paying for a mortgage, which is carried by the organizatin at no interest, The payments on each mortgage go back into the program, providing funde for the materials to buiild the next home. The biggest problem here in Prescott today, he says, is finding affordable land, on which the next homes can be built. Every three years, Rotary International convenes a Council on Legislation. Representatives from Rotary's 529 districts around the world participate, voting on potential changes to just about anything and everything in the way Rotary is structured and functions. On a lower level, each Rotary District also convenes their own District Council on Legislation annually.. Our district's CoL will be held this Friday morning in Fountain Hills, as part of our District Conference. Representing our club as Electors will be Pres. Christy Manning and DGN Joe Sweeney. The 2025 RI Council on Legislation just concluded its work, having met in Chicago. Here are several of the Enactments by this Rotary International CoL: • Reducing the required number of members to be able to charter a new Rotary club, from 20 down to 15. • Annual District Conferences, which had been mandatory, will now be optional • The Rotary Interational Board of Diectors was empowered to terminate, for just cause, the membership of a Rotarian "bad actor" anywhere in the world. Interestingly enough, the proposal to reinstate the original 18-30 age range for Rotaract membership garnered a majority vote, but failed to achieve the required 2/3 majority of the represemtatives' votes. YOUTH SERVICE PHS Interact President Sophia Brown, with Rotarian Robert Wertz, dedicating the new Rotary Peace Pole at Prescott High School After months of work on the project, our PHS Interact Club dedicated on Friday their Peace Pole, situated in the southeast corner of the schools developing new "Food Forest." Club members hand-painted the tiles, before they were fired and affixted to the pole, which has the Rotary logo at its top, The inscription, "May Peace Prevail on Earth," on each of the four sides of the pole, appear in the English, Spanish, French and Yavapai Indian languages. The Prescott-Frontier Rotary Club, in memory of PDG Nancy Van Pelt. and the Rotary Peace Initiative she championed, provided the funds for Peace Poles on both the Pescott High School and the Bradshaw Mountain High School campuss. Prescott-Frontier Rotarian Robert Wertz now leads that Rotary Peace Initiative, and he participated in the dedication of this Peace Pole om Friday. Did you see that this story made the front page of the Sunday edition of the Prescott Daily Courier? INTERNATIONAL SERVICE Inspired by PHS Interact President Sophia Brown's recent presentation to our club about the Interact Global Schisto Project, and the fact that, for only $2 you can save a child's life from Schistosomiasis, President Christy decided to institute a Trophy LiveSaver Jar for our Sunup Rotary Club — like those appearing in Interact Clubs arund the world. For each $2 contributed to save a life, the donor gets to add a LifeSaver candy to the jar. Due to the eager response and support of our members, Christy discovered she needs to get a bigger jar!
